Position Statement on Seclusion and Restraint
Deadline to Submit Feedback: October 23, 2025

The American Psychological Association (APA) invites public comment regarding Position Statement on Seclusion and Restraint. The statement is available for public comment through the APA Comment Portal for a 30-day period, ending on October 23, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Resolution on Family Caregivers (Revision)
Deadline to Submit Feedback: November 14, 2025

The Committee on Aging (CONA) is pleased to submit a revised version of APA’s Resolution on Family Caregivers for public comment. The original resolution was written by CONA and passed by APA Council of Representatives in 2011. As part of CONA’s ongoing policy evaluation, CONA identified the need for substantial updates to both the language and content to reflect current scientific understanding and the evolving landscape of caregiving.

The proposed revision updates the resolution with current scientific research, corrects outdated terminology, and addresses contemporary challenges faced by family caregivers. CONA aims for this updated resolution to strengthen APA’s advocacy efforts and promote research and dissemination of evidence-based assessments and interventions that mitigate the psychological impacts on family caregivers.

Please review the draft and share feedback by November 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Proposed Revisions to Implementing Regulations Section A.1
Deadline to Submit Feedback: November 8, 2025

The APA Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) invites public comment on proposed revisions to Section A.1 of the Commission on Accreditation (CoA) Implementing Regulations: Policies for Accreditation Governance, specifically Section 3: Structure of the Commission on Accreditation.

Implementing Regulation (IR) A.1 is a CoA policy that describes the functions and composition of the CoA. As stated in IR A.1, “it [the CoA] shall be appointed by and report to the Board of Educational Affairs [BEA].” Currently, the CoA is constrained in its capacity to review and accredit master’s programs due to (1) commissioner workload and (2) ensuring expertise for the master’s training level remains sustainable on the CoA.

There is no mechanism to add the necessary seats on the Commission in IR A.1 beyond the use of special appointments, which is a temporary solution. To address this, the CoA requested that the BEA revise IR A.1 to include CoA seats representing master’s education and training along with an additional public member to assure quality from a public perspective and to meet the requirements set by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council of Higher Education Accreditors (CHEA).

Comments on the proposed revisions are welcome through November 8, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.
